Bonn

The federal city of Bonn is an independent city in the district of Cologne in the south of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. With 318,809 inhabitants, Bonn is one of the 20 largest cities in Germany. The city on both banks of the Rhine was from 1949 to 1990 provisional federal capital and until 1999 the seat of government of the Federal Republic of Germany, since Bonn is only the factual second seat of government of Germany. Bonn has also been the seat of the United Nations since 1951.
