Lively district with high standards
New Cranachhöfe building in Essen
In Europe’s former cultural capital, Essen, the new, lively district Cranachhöfe has been created on 14 000 m² of land. The building complex has not only created new apartments but also offers space for a daycare center, retail space, and office use. We realized the turnkey Cranachhöfe in the Holsterhausen district as a general contractor for Essen’s largest housing provider, Allbau GmbH.
The district shapes the cityscape with its high-quality architecture. Due to the almost U-shaped basic structure, the building complex encloses a green, protected inner courtyard, which is used exclusively by the residents and the daycare center.
The apartments are divided into 29 attractive and barrier-free city apartments for different user needs and 42 publicly funded rental apartments. With a 900 m² daycare for 100 children with a large outdoor playing area, a supermarket with an area of 1 800 m², further retail uses, office space and an underground car park with 268 partly public parking spaces, the location offers a wide range of different uses. The building complex has a total of 10 000 m² of commercial space. It was built following the current requirements for energy efficiency and is set to receive a DGNB certification.
At the lively intersection of Rubensstrasse and Holsterhauserstrasse, a public square has been created with greenery and access to shops, outdoor dining and local public transport. Many activities have already taken place on and around the construction site. For the first groundbreaking, a neighborhood party was held with 600 visitors. As part of the construction site days, students from the neighboring Cranach school were able to explore the construction site and learn in an outdoor classroom in a practical exercise how thermal insulation works. Also, a poetry slam and a meeting with the church have already taken place on the construction site.
