NORDFROST-group is one of the leading companies in the deep-frozen-food sector on an international level. NORDFROST is operating nationwide in Germany with 40 locations. We extended the storage and shock-freezing capacities at the facility in Versmold by building a new refrigeration warehouse as part of a joint venture.
The new building enlarges the storage capacity by 15 000 pallet bays to 35 000 pallet bays. Additionally, we build a new four-storage administration building and a building for the cooling machinery.
In the refrigeration warehouse, eight new deep-freezers can be used to freeze up to 300 tons of fresh produce, like fresh meat, additionally to the 200 tons of the old facility, bringing the total capacity to 500 tones daily. Including the new 1 200m² hygienic-area, we were able to extend the capacity of the site for food-preparation significantly.
Because of temperatures as low as -22°C in the refrigeration hall, there were high structural-physical expectations set for the new building. The building connects to the already existing building and is receiving electricity, heat, and cooling from a newly build engine house. This new engine house contains a refrigerating plant, three natural-gas block-type thermal power stations (1 544 kW electric plus 722 kW redundancy-power) for power generation and an emergency power system. Therefore, the new extensions are not connected at all to the public power grid. Using trigeneration, the waste heat of the block-type thermal power stations is converted into cold by using the absorption-method, which is used to power the refrigerating storage facility. The cooling machinery was already brought in and installed during the carcassing. The mounting of the 11 m semi-done wall-concrete-component was another challenge of this project. Also part of this project was the creation of a 400 m rainwater storage system according to the DIN 1 200 ductwork regulation. During the whole construction period, there were nearly no disturbance of NORDFROST’s logistics. The building was finished in June 2019 and was handed over to NORDFROST according to the set timetable.
In 2017, we already extended the NORDFROST seaport-terminal at the Wilhelmshaven Container-Port by a refrigerated storage facility.
