Second construction phase at the Jungheinrich facilities in Hamburg-Wandsbek
If companies plan structural extensions with foresight, they can make room for future growth. In 2015 we were allowed to set up the Jungheinrich AG headquarters on Friedrich-Ebert-Damm in Hamburg-Wandsbek. Now, as a general contractor, we have expanded the location within a second construction phase on the company site. The project was implemented in a partnership-based dialogue with the Jungheinrich AG. The second construction phase is positioned in a north-south direction and is aligned with the construction phase completed in 2015 on the northern part of the property. On the ground floor, there is an auditorium with an electrically extendable grandstand integrated into the wall, which offers a total of 62 seats on five platforms. Mobile partitions enable the division and subdivision of this area. The wall and ceiling cladding made of acoustic panels ensure an optimal sound. One of the highlights is the 3 x 2 m LCD panel field, which has been integrated flush into the wall surface. Two skylights, which were manufactured as a gable roof construction with steel profiles, provide natural lighting and ventilation. The ground floor also has an area with four inwards facing video conference rooms. The surrounding walls offer increased sound insulation up to 69 dB.
A restaurant area, including a fully equipped multifunctional kitchen, offers space for 130 people. Acoustic sails of various heights were suspended in the area of the café and the dispenser, which, together with the cladding of the dispenser, which was lavishly provided with old wood from cut pallets, round off the area. Both sections are connected from the first to the fifth floor by a bridge. The connecting bridge is designed as a single span girder with a catwalk made of a spatial steel framework with a glass facade. To create the new mainline as a continuous corridor, the first construction phase was rebuilt and an opening in the firewall was made. The loads there are intercepted with steel beam portals on the ground and basement levels. Besides, the toilet facilities had to be relocated and a telescopic fire protection sliding gate had to be installed for the fire protection division of the building.
The structural changes in the existing structure created a new visual axis. The view now extends from the entrance of the first construction phase on the south side to the end of the second construction phase on the north side. Furthermore, individually equipped training and WAR rooms complete the functions of the ground floor. The floor covering in the main areas is a visible filler in different colors that visually separates the areas. Because of this second construction phase on the company site, Jungheinrich AG’s corporate headquarters was expanded to include an innovative and architecturally ultra-modern building.
