Extension of the existing production works for Apetito AG in Rheine
Process optimization for public catering
apetito is offering deep-frozen products for communal and individual catering solutions. Costumers are among other schools and medical institutions. Working closely with the Rheiner Stahlbau GmbH and the planning office rpg, we extended the production capacity at the apetito location Rheine, including the technical equipment.
The construction work on the already existing ‘kitchen III’ was split up in two separate stages. During the first stage of construction, we extended the existing southern building by a new two-storage building for a new supplying area as well as two new production lines, each equipped with processing, freezing and packaging units. The area, which was formally used for the workshop, now contains a new “Individually Quick Frozen-Center”. It will be used to immediately process and distribute the goods after the production. Due to the extension of the kitchen area, the cooling, sprinkler and energy systems had to be extended as well. These enlargements were installed in a new two-story building.
To comply with the current pollution control act, we installed six new exhaust-chimneys each with a height of 6 m and two ventilation systems for proper smoke extraction, on the roof of the already existing production facility. The systems were assembled on the working site and then brought up on the roof by a helicopter.
In the second construction stage, we enlarged the northern office and social area by adding a two-story building to the already existing ones. Because of the direct connection to the existing buildings, we were able to guarantee short travel distances for the employees and optimized working processes by separating the back and white areas.
The main challenges with this project were the complex requirements for hygiene in a food processing company as well as to execute all construction activities while not disrupting the production process. Since many tasks were dependent on each other, the continuous review and optimization of all timetables in cooperation with the apetito-team was crucial for success. Owing to that continuous enhancement of all plans, we were able to finish the project three months before the due date.
